Online Personality Testing 2014

Take a few minutes to look over the options linked below. Choose one or two different personality related tests to take. Also, look at the BBC site to find three or four tests that look interesting to you.

If you are completing this exercise in class, take your time with the tests.  You should only visit the sites linked in this post while completing this assignment.  After completing this assignment, you should understand the personality types discussed in class a little better.  Please take as much time as you need to explore the sites, but do leave yourself about 10 minutes to create your written responses.  Remember that for the most part, these tests are for entertainment purposes so be careful about trusting the results.

When you finish, 1) describe the tests that you took and explain your thoughts on the experience. (Was it fun, interesting, useless, accurate, way off base, etc.?)  2) Be sure to let me know what you think about the reliability and validity of the tests you chose to take.  You may respond by using the comment feature below (use only your first name and class period to identify yourself).  If you prefer, you may write your response and turn it in to me.

Here are the personality related tests you can choose from:

    1. I took the "How Unique Are You?" test. The questions were really interesting, but the results didn't seem to make too much sense.
    2. I do not think this test was very reliable or valid. I feel that if I took the test again my results could be very different just based on how I was feeling or how I read the questions.

    ReplyDelete
  2. I think the test is reliable because each one yielded similar results, but it was not very valid because I have so much bias about myself that it's hard to get accurate results. I took the Unique test and the Star Wars test.

    1. I took the pretty big 5 quiz and I thought it was pretty accurate. I am not a huge fan of self-reflecting quizzes because I never know how to judge myself but it wasn't terrible. It was short and to the point and the questions did not require much thought.

    2. I don't think the quiz I took was reliable because some questions are very dependent on how I feel at the time. Some answers will depend on the environment and the people I am around, therefore it is not consistent. I do think the quiz is valid though, because it does portray my personality pretty well.

I took the pretty Big Five Test. I think that it seemed accurate and it was pretty fun. This test seems valid. Some of the questions seem unnecessary for determining personality but overall I think the test is valid. I also think this test was pretty reliable and would yield consistent results

I took the Another Big Five Test (this one is prettier) I really liked this test although some of the questions I asked I didn't think was necessary for determining what type of personality I have. However I thought it was fun to take. I believe it was valid because It measured the type of personality I have. I also feel like it was also reliable because it describes the type of personality I have. Fun and exciting!!!

  6. I took the big five personality test and I was satisfied with the results because it was reliable and valid because it provided me with results that accurately define who I am and how I am and I was very happy about it. I believe even if I took it another time it would provide me with the same results and thus its reliable

  7. I took The Big Five Traits test. It was an odd experience having to judge myself on those qualities. The answers seemed to reflect my personality generally, but there were some aspects I didn't agree with.
I didn't think the test was very valid because of personal bias as well as the direct aspect of the questions.

  8. I took the the pretty big 5 test. It was okay, but I found the questions difficult to answer. I prefer tests that ask what you would do in a situation and then infer your traits rather than asking you to describe yourself. I'm not sure if it's reliable, because i only took it once, but it seems valid because it asks pertinent questions.

  9. Abby H. Period 3. I thought the results for the uniqueness test were way off. I thought the questions were really hard to answer, and the answer choices often didn’t have anything resembling how I would have liked to respond.

  10. Jasmine S. I thought the results for all of the tests posted yesterday were not accurate but I took the Personality Test Based on Briggs Myer personality types test and found it to be much more accurate. The questions on the Personality Test Based on Briggs Myer personality types test were for the most part clear while I wish for some of the questions a neutral or median option would have been available.

I took the morality test and it was interesting. They had an option to answer the questions yourself and also answer for a friend but I only filled out my part. The test was interesting most of the time when I take tests like these I get really bored but I wasnt too bored. I think some of the questions could be left out because it was long and some were repetitive. I feel like the test is reliable because if I took it again I think I would get similar results.

I thought that the Star Wars personality test was pretty fun to take, but I'm not sure how reliable it is since it's based off of a trilogy. You can't really observe some of the less important characters in the movies to really put them into the test. It was a pretty fun test to take though

I thought the tests results were fairly accurate, but to the extremes. I did not like the way that you were supposed to rank yourself on a scale since to many traits I was neutral for. I thought the tests were very repetitive. Over all I thought the tests were fine, but some of the different tests produced different answers.

  14. Vincent C. I took the morality test and shyness test and both showed borderline differences. I believe that these test are self suited where the individual can easily predict what result he/she would recieve by choosing certain answers and ratings. I believe I would get similar results by opening a fortune cookie.

  15. i took the shy test. it was relatively accurate and the questions were based on independence and interdependence. i only took the test once, so i am unsure of its reliability but based on the questions and my results (were accurate), i think the test is valid.

  16. I took the longer Briggs Myers test that was recently uploaded. This test, I believe, is VERY accurate and reliable. In my opinion it clearly accentuated the details of my personality. I was surprised how well this described my personality. Everyone should definitely take this test!

I took the shyness test and the big 5 personality traits test. I found that both results were very accurate and average for me. Overall the tests were interesting and seemed fairly accurate. Replication of the tests might be useful to get more valid results.

  18. I felt that the Briggs Myers personality test was a fairly good indicator of what my personality is like. The only problem was that it said that I was more judging I hope that it meant judging as in situations not people. I do judge people but not all the time and it is not in a mean way.

I took the Big 5 test, and I think that the test was reliable, because it yielded pretty accurate results, but it isn't very valid because I have a bias in the way that I chose my answers.

I took the morality test and I generally agree with the results. The political morals were something I disagreed with a little more but I think that's because the questions were worded in a way that you were required to answer one way or else feel like a terrible person. My OCEAN results were pretty spot on though, all in all I would say its pretty valid.

  21. Katie P. Period 3. The tests from yesterday varied in the results from the extent of some of the traits but I thought they were mostly accurate though there were some questions where i didn't feel that there was an available answer that suited me. The Briggs Myers test I felt were more accurate than the prior tests and the results were pretty consistant. I think that these tests were easier to do than the prior tests and the questions were more open to all. The reliability of the tests with consistant results would be high but the validity would be questionable because the results could be easily manipulated so that the results would be more positive.

  22. I took the Happy Potter character test that was just updated. I think some of it described me and then some of it wasn't accurate.

I took the big Five Test and the Meyers Brigg Test, I found that both yielded similar results. I am unsure about the tests reliability because when I was taking both tests I was questioning how I would have answered the questions a year ago. I do not know if either test is really all that valid but I did enjoy taking them.

i took the shyness test and the big five ("fancier one"). They shyness test, on average, was accurate to how i personally view myself, more independent than interdependent on others in a group. However, I felt some of the results from the Big five survey were not as accurate,Both test can potentially produce accurate results although the wording effect can pose a problem due to the fact that the survey taker has to fill in bubble instead of put their own straight forward answer

I took the Big Five test (the "prettier one"). The results were pretty much what I expected. I feel like they weren't enough questions to answer, so the results weren't specific enough. All together though it's still pretty accurate and the results definitely describe me. XoXo

I took the briggs myers test and it said how I was 100percent extroverted,I think of myself as extroverted but 100 percents is stretching a little to far. Also it said how I really on feeling rather than thinking 75 percent of the time which I found pretty accurate. Other than that it provided pretty accurate results and I feel that these tests are a lot of fun and can make some one's day a lot better (if they provide good results).

I took the Big Five test (prettier one) and the results weren't much different than what I expected. It didn't seem that thorough compared some of the other tests I've taken and there weren't nearly as many questions. My results seemed both valid and reliable because my personality assessment was accurate.

I took the Myers-Briggs test and I got an INFJ personality type. I don't necessarily disagree with it, but it's sort of weird to be considered in the same group as people like Mother Teresa, Gandhi, Adolf Hitler, and Osama Bin-Laden. It's interesting to see what the test thinks and I think I agree with why it thought so to a certain extent.

I took the Big Five test and I was predicted to be average on all of the traits. The result could be correct but I don't think words can really explain my personality through a scale. I think it is reliable but not valid.

I took the Big Five Test, and the Harry Potter and they pretty much matched my personality perfectly. I'm not too thrilled about having the same personality traits as snap, but they were defiantly accurate. I think these tests are reliable and valid ( for the most part ).

I took the Big Five test and the Myers Briggs test. On the Big Five test I got above average on openness, extroversion, and agreeableness and average on stability and conscientiousness. I feel like this is relatively accurate but I don't think it really embodies my personality overall since the test only rates a handful of adjectives. The Myers Briggs test said I was ENFP which is what I usually get, so I think it is pretty valid but I wouldn't necessarily say super reliable.

I took the Big Five test and the Star-wars character test. They were both pretty much the same, just offering the results in a different format. The results indicated that I was introverted, agreeable, and relaxed which I would agree with. I think these tests are valid but not always reliable. I would probably get a different score if I was in a different mood.

The first test I took was the big five test and I thought some of the results I got were accurate but not all of them. The second test I took was the Briggs-Myers test and I thought the results I got were the complete opposite of my personality. I took the same test last year for sociology and my first results were much more accurate.

I took the Big Five test (the prettier one), I some-what agree with what i got. But it gave me an 8% on being disorganized.. and my closet and shirts are all color-coordinated. it also says im on an introvert, which i would agree with but my friends would deny in a heartbeat. everything else is about 50%

I took the big five test and the morality test today, both of which I found to be decently accurate in their results- the morality test displayed a fairly well-guessed estimation on my opinions, especially. I've taken the Myers-Briggs test before, multiple times, but each time I've always gotten a different answer, so I've found that one to be fairly invalid.

I took two big five tests and scored average across the board on the first and average on the second except for slightly introverted, very agreeable, and extremely calm. And I just don't agree with with some of the results I got on the morality test. These tests do an okay job of scoring for some traits depending on certain activities, but it is very easy to give false information, whether accidentally or on purpose. And if you know what the results will be it would be really easy to shape your answer to get certain ones.

I took the first big five test which I could mostly agree on. Some of the questions and my answers contradicted each other because I can give myself and 8 for careless but then also give myself a 8 for sympathetic, it all just depends on the circumstance. I also took the harry potter and the "how unique are you" quiz and those both seemed a little less accurate, the questions were hard to answers with just agree or disagree or the options they gave me. Some were accurate and others were not.

I took the morality test and the big 5 test, which were the same thing other than the fact that the morality test had an added part based on political leanings. The big 5 personality test was not very reliable because I feel like some of the questions are mood-dependent as well as dependent on how I behaved toward recent events that may be out of the norm for me. With that being said, I think it is decently valid in my situation, because the personality it gave me was believable to a point. I disagreed with some of the stats it gave me, but overall it was generally on point.

  42. I initially took the big 5 test, and learned that I was extremely open and agreeable, but not very conscientious. This is true, as I'm abnormally disorganized. I was exactly 51 percent extroverted, which I agree with- I enjoy being with people I know, but interacting with strangers terrifies me. I also took the Harry Potter test, which was inaccurate- it deemed me as Lupin, an INFP, but in reality I am an ESFP. Overall, the tests were valid and for the most part captured my personality.

I agreed with most of what the quizzes showed me as because they fairly accurately reflected what my personality is. However sometimes if things pertained to a certain situation in a question it may be different in others so it inaccurately describes me in general but may be accurate in that particular situation. Overall, I think the tests were accurate for the most part. The tests may not be 100% reliable but most of the tests had very similar if not the exact same questions.

I took the second, prettier of the big 5 test and the shorter of the Myers Briggs test. The Big 5 test seemed to be mood congruent and cannot be very specific with a large scale leaving room for a grey area. I do think it was telling about my personality, but I would not rate every category as being spot on. As for the Myers Briggs test, the yes or no questions provided a more precise, sure answer. I would more so agree with the results due to the validity of my test scores.

The two tests I took were the Big Five and the "Are you a Freak?" test. They both gave me pretty accurate results with saying I was someone who looks out for others but also one who does not like confrontation. Overall I believe the tests captured my personality well in some aspects, but I think a lot of my answers depended on all of my life experiences thus far, and may change in the future if some drastic event happens to me. I would say the tests had pretty good validity, because they got somewhat of a sense of who I am, but they are not very reliable because it depends on my mood and my life experiences so far.

I enjoyed the personality tests, but only in a limited sense. I don't believe the results are reliable because I think that some of the questions I might answer differently under different circumstances that might affect my mood at the current time. I took the Big Five Mini Test and the Leverage Your Personality Meyers Briggs test. I thought that overall, the results were somewhat valid because I did tend to agree with the results of the test.

I took the Unique Test and the Harry Potter test. These tests were fairly reliable, most of the descriptions they gave of my personality were accurate, however there were some inaccurate parts of these tests. I agreed more with the results from the Harry Potter test and i would consider them to have more validity.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I took the star wars twin test and the harry potter test. On the star wars test I was measured according to the Big Five (O.C.E.A.N). I came back as twins with an Ewok, Han Solo, Darth Vader, and Princess Leia. This test is pretty reliable but not valid. In the description it simply listed dozens of personality traits that I clicked on during the test. On the harry potter test I came back with Fred and George Weasley. I'd say the test was pretty inaccurate since I'm only one person and I don't have red hair.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I took the shyness personality test and I feel that the results reflected how I see myself. It was hard to answer some of the questions because I disagreed with the statement in some situations but agreed for other situations. Due to this, I found myself answering with the middle numbers and avoided answering with a 0 or a 9. This test was valid because it tested what the title said it would test (shyness).

    ReplyDelete
  51. Megan 6th period On the Star Wars test I am most like General Akbar. This is sort of true but I also Identify with C3P0 which is very different. The questions seemed general and for whatever mood you're in currently. The morality test was also very subjective and can change drastically from what moods people are in in the moment. I am like severus Snape on the Harry potter one. I have a feeling I could identify with all the characters in one way or another.

I took a few of the Big 5 tests and the "Are you a Freak?" test, and they both scored me more on how I was feeling at the time than anything indicative of my personality. The questions asked, such as "You can be moody" make you more likely to answer based on how you're feeling now than typically; the test could be improved if the question were phrased in a way that made it more impersonal.

I took the Unique test and the What Sex is Your Brian Test. I found that the unique test was inaccurate because it asked about whether tending to conform is more unique than not. It was not valid because one's ability to get along well with others versus their ability to be unconventional does not measure a person's uniqueness

I took the second of the two big 5 tests and the morality test. I think that the second of the big 5 tests did a pretty good job of describing me but because I was answering questions about myself, the test could have some bias and I had control over my results. I really liked the morality test because they questions were very unique and different and I think it did a good job of describing me, but it could also be biased and I had control over my results. I think the tests were valid but I think it is a little difficult to determine whether they were reliable or not because people change after taking tests so results will be different over time.
